I’ve always been attracted to Adele Park‘s novels, I always know it’s going to be a page turner. She was the first author that every book I’ve read of hers I have absolutely loved.
This one truly did not disappoint, the only disappointment was finishing the book because I truly did not want this one to end. It had me hooked from the first page, which for me personally is unusual as I normally have to be a few chapters on before I feel like this about a book.

When Emma meets Matthew, a kind, handsome widower, he seems to be just what she needs.
Yet as their relationship moves fast, Emma’s friends worry Emma might be exploited. She’s a rich woman after all.
Emma doesn’t care Matthew has no money. But as the memory of his perfect first wife hangs over them, Emma does have one tiny doubt.
If Matthew’s wife hadn’t died, he wouldn’t be with her. And Emma wonders if she’s second best. Can she ever fill the dead woman’s shoes?
As jealousy and suspicion blossom between Emma and Matthew, events take a darker, dangerous turn.
Suddenly Emma doesn’t know who she can trust. Her friends? Her husband? Or even herself…?
The characters really come to life, I usually have a favourite character but this time it changed throughout the story.
Firstly it was Emma; a strong independent woman who knows what she wants and she has the confidence to speak to an audience. Matthew, the caring widow who always knows the right thing to do or say. I did love Heidi, she was a caring friend and alert to anyone upsetting her friend. Between her and Gina they were Emma’s support network, I have two ladies like that in my life and I’m eternally grateful.

Plot Twist/Spoiler Alert
You will not see it coming and I am NOT going to share what it is but once you know you soon realise. It could change your way of thinking, a very influential read about a CEO that had a sensible head on her shoulders and although her personality takes a shift she comes back stronger than ever.
This story taps into insecurities and how easy it can be to become jealous of the past. This is a quickly paced novel, so if you’re looking for a book to read with a bit of tension then this is the one for you. I’m a chapter-or-two-a-night kinda girl and some nights I went WAY past my bed-time just to find out what happened, needless to say I was tired the next day!

This is my favourite one of Adele Park’s novels, such a gripping psychological thriller with a number of plot twists and turns that had me on the edge.
It will have anyone guessing until it’s conclusion, and it will still surprise you!
