There are many ways of being a better organiser, in this post I’m going to compare and show you ways of doing this. Whether you’re digitally minded or not there will be something for everyone. Let’s have a look and see how to be a better organiser.
The best time to do it
Depending on how long this will take, you may want to look into the best time to do this. Over a weekend if you work during the week. Or you may want to set aside a day or two when the children are at school, out of the house and out of the way. Does it involves a physical organisation of a wardrobe, drawer or a whole room? If so then you might find the best way of doing this is to send the family elsewhere for the weekend. Maybe there is a possibility of delegating jobs to the family?
Before you start
The first thing you need to do is decide what exactly you want to organise. Are you orgnaising your personal life, maybe your calendar or your family calendar? Maybe you need to organise the families events including the children’s clubs and activities. To choose how to do this, make sure it’s something easy to start with. Don’t pick a huge thing to reorganise, because you want to start small and work up to the bigger projects.
Invest the time
Not huge amounts of time, but time that can be spent deciding what you want to organise. Then how you want to organise it. Do you want something physical to look at or are you the sort of person who likes to keep everything in your phone? Maybe this is something you’re organising that you share with someone else. In our family we have a couple of lists, one being the shopping lists which is shared on the online (Apple) reminders list. The other is a physical board we have up that has a timetable of the week. This displays what we’re doing in the upcoming week and our meal planning. So we all know about after school clubs and/or whether I’m out of the area for a meeting and when my husband is working from home or in the office.
Make it fun
Use planners and/or calendars, prioritise what you need and want to do and decorate it to make it anaesthetically pleasing to you and whoever you’re sharing it with. It’s helps to encourage you to do it more often, which in the longterm will help with your mentality and state of mind. If you’re organising something by paper perhaps use stickers or create something on an app like Canva or Microsoft Word where you can include illustrations.
Find your resources
Get that list. If you are the one who prefers a notebook, then get yourself that smart resourceful notebook or download the app that would well with your requirements. If you’re physically organising something, then shop for containers or something that will organise your space.
Take time out
This could be a project for you, or your family. However much time is required to do this make sure that you set aside time to do it. It is a project which when complete will be satisfying to you. Try not to push yourself into doing too much in a short space of time. When you work you should take breaks, so make sure you do this whilst doing your organising. Some find it harder than others to take breaks, but statistics say that if you take breaks regularly you work more productively and can perform for longer.
And most of all, enjoy it because if you enjoy what you’re doing you’re more likely to do it again! Happy organising!
